Sensear SP1 Noise Canceling Ear Plugs

Sensear SP1 Noise Canceling Ear Plugs

Sensear SP1 (Image courtesy Sensear)

By Andrew Liszewski

I’m sure these noise canceling ear plugs from Sensear would provide plenty of peace and quiet on your next flight, particularly if you get stuck next to this kid. But they seem to be geared towards people who are stuck in even noisier environments, like say the ground crew working outside the plane. And instead of simply eliminating all the noises around you, they actually just reduce them to the point where they won’t damage your hearing. That way you can still hear the jet engine revving up even while having a conversation with someone.

The microphones are embedded in the ear plugs themselves, and feature binaural functionality which basically lets you tell which direction a particular sound is coming from. The ruggedized device also features large buttons that can even be used while wearing gloves, as well as inputs for an MP3 player or a two-way radio. The only downside is that it will set you back $445. So if you’re just looking to get a little shut eye while traveling, there are far more affordable solutions. But if you’re worried about wandering into the path of a jet engine, they just might be worth the investment.

All four models will boast JVC's new TeleDock, with all but one of them featuring full HD resolution. The four models in question are the 32' LT-32P679, 42' LT-42P789, 47' LT-47P789 and the 52' LT-52P789. The iPod, when docked, will remain charged regardless of whether the LCD TV is on or off. Tekkeon’s NavDock for iPod

Tekkeon’s NavDock for iPod

navdock.jpg

Mentioned as one of the coolest iPod accessories, the Tekkeon’s NavDock allows users to navigate their iPod thorugh TV screen with responsive control and enjoying their iPod’s contents including photos, music, and videos on connected TV. The NavDock’s interface is similar to iPod’s interface and it’s easy to use. And NavDock comes with five-way navigation pad and 16-button remote to control volume and other settings including shuffle, repeat or skip songs, and fast forward or rewind through music or videos. What NavDock displays on screen are the song number (within the current sequence of songs), song title, artist name, album title, elapsed time and remaining time. And interestingly, it also allows users to display lyrics or album art on screen.

Weighing at 195 g, the NavDock for iPod sports Stereo audio output, Composite and S-video output, Docking connector for iPod, and supports NTSC/PAL TV formats. Regarding compatibility, the NavDock works well with iPod classic, iPod nano (3rd generation), and iPod video. Other models including iPod with color display, iPod 4G, iPod nano (1st and 2nd generation), and iPod mini also compatible with NavDock but without on-TV navigation feature.

You may ask whether the NavDock are compatible with iPhone and iPod touch. As mentioned on company’s website, the iPhone and iPod touch are not fully compatible with NavDock, users still able to use it but the following features will not supported including Album art and On-TV navigation of videos and photo.

What I like most is its portability that allows users to watch their favorite videos or TV shows wherever and whenever they want such in hotel room without the need additional CD/DVD player.

The NavDock bundled with 16-button infrared remote control with one-touch mode selectors; 6 feet of Standard AV output cable for TV connection; Universal dock adapters (3); Power adapter, 100-240 VAC; and User guide.

Wooden iPod Dock is Wholesome, Er, Wooden [Docks]

Available for both iPod classic and nano, Marubeni Infotech's wooden docks are coming out in Japan next month. In two finishes: American Walnut; and Scandinavian Birch, (*thwack!*) they have a USB connection and two piddly little 1W channels. Costing $100 and $90 respectively, they're kinda cool, if you're allergic to plastic. Bonus shot after the jump.

Skateboard Speaker Shelf

Now this is one iPod accessory that is truly different from the rest - it comes in the form of a Skateboard Speaker Shelf. Not only does it function as an iPod-compatible audio system, it also doubles up as a shelf for you to store miscellanous items as and when desired. Features include a pair of 3' speakers accompanied by a dock that works with most iPod models. It measures 29' x 5.5' x 8', making it small enough to be fitted into just about any apartment no matter how crammed. Good thing there are colors other than pink to choose from, making this $129 purchase a delectable one for either genders.

Klipsch RoomGroove portable speaker systems

Klipsch recently launched RoomGroove portable speaker systems to be used with iPods. The easy to set up portable speaker systems are wireless and operate on 2.4GHz.

‘With intelligent wireless technology and dynamic sound performance, our RoomGroove fills the market gap for a high-quality multi-room music platform that’s designed to be simple to install and operate,’ said Tony Ostrom, Klipsch director of product planning. ‘It’s a product that allows users to easily experience their iPod tunes from room-to-room without being tripped up or tied down.’

Once the Room Groove device is installed, more units can be added easily. So keep the iPod at one location and enjoy the music throughout the house. Not only this you can access and playback music from different iPods. Two different rooms can have different music playing with the third room having an option to choose from both.

Reasonably priced at £199, the speaker system will enhance your audio experience.

iLuv i1255 iPod & DVD budget 5.1 home entertainment system

iLuv i1255 iPod & DVD budget 5.1 home entertainment system

Rocking the budget-Bose look, iLuv’s latest surround sound home theatre setup, the i1255, gives you the choice between DVD and iPod audio and video playback.  Your $149.99 obviously doesn’t get you a high-def powerhouse - outputs, for instance, are S-Video or standard AV - but there’s flexibility a-plenty if you’re not bothered with the 1080p revolution.

iLuv i1255

The built-in dock is compatible with most of the more recent Apple models: the 6th generation iPods, iPod touch, iPod classic (80GB, 160GB), iPod Nano 3rd Gen, and iPod with video (30GB, 60GB, 80GB).  The i1255 simultaneously recharges the PMP and plays back media stored on it; an OSD lets you browse from the sofa.

Meanwhile, there are component video and coaxial digital audio outputs for the DVD player, which is content with not only DVDs but VCD, MP3 CD, audio CD, JPEG CD and Kodak Picture CD formats.  An audio input lets you play music from another source, albeit not remotely controlled such as with the iPod, through the surround speakers.

You’re not going to be replacing a serious home entertainment system with this, but as a budget buy the price is right.  The iLuv i1255 is available now.

Alesis' ProTrack turns your iPod into portable digital recorder

Alesis' ProTrack turns your iPod into portable digital recorder

Though not the first audio recorder we've seen to get buddy-buddy with Apple's darling for storage -- nor the first Alesis product to partner up with the iPod -- the ProTrack is still pretty swank in its own right. Hailed as a 'professional handheld digital stereo recorder for iPod,' this unit enables direct-to-iPod stereo digital recording for folks needing gobs of storage space. You'll find a pair of condenser microphones built-in along with twin XLR - 1/4-inch inputs for connecting external mics and line sources. Folks who can't locate an AC outlet can count on four to five hours of use from four AAA cells, but it should be noted that only select iPods (2G / 3G nanos, 5G iPods and the iPod classic) are supported. Look for this one to land in Q3 for a currently undisclosed price.

Hands On With the Griffin PowerDock 2

Hands On With the Griffin PowerDock 2

Griffin_iPodDock2.jpg

If you've enjoyed a swig of the Apple kool-aid, chances are there's more than one iGadget in your household. And if you plan on picking up the 3G iPhone, keep in mind you'll be down one dock, as the $199 price with two-year contract comes with just a cable for your charging inconvenience. Luckily, Griffin is offering up the the panacea for our fruit-filled lives, with the PowerDock 2.

A tandem iPod/iPhone dock for two, the brushed aluminum device will charge just about any generation iPods you can throw at it, thanks to seven included dock adapters. Quick note to Griffin, though: individually wrapping all seven adapters in plastic is a waste of both your customer's time, and the world's oil reserves. One bag is more than enough, thank you very much.

Other than that pet peeve, the PowerDock is a capable charger for all your Apple charging needs. And at $49.99, it's two docks for the price of the single universal dock that Apple sells on its site. It arguably looks better than the universal dock, too, with a curved, brushed aluminum surface over a wide base that should keep your iPods from tumbling off your desk. A large piece of rubber on the base keeps the dock from moving around. It took less than an hour to charge a completely drained fifth generation iPod, so topping off any iPhone or iPod should be speedy.

For the $50 price tag, there's no question that the Griffin PowerDock 2 is a good value for anyone who owns more than one iPod or iPhone. The only real question is whether two chargers is enough for the average gadget-happy household. Apparently Griffin doesn't think so, as they list a $70, four-seater iPod dock as 'coming soon' on their website. If the company really wants to impress, they should throw in a couple side USB ports for charging other gadgets, but maybe that's just a little too much to ask.

Lightning Review: iHome iH12BR iPod Alarm Clock [Review]

Lightning Review: iHome iH12BR iPod Alarm Clock [Review]

The Gadget: The iHome iH12, which is an iPod dock, alarm clock, AM/FM radio and stereo speakers all in one compact black box. The BR means it's black and it comes with a remote.

The Price: $79

The face The buttons The rear

The Verdict: It works pretty much as expected. We went through loads and loads of iPod Docks in our iPod Dock Battlemodo last year and like the iHome iH52 speaker dock, we found this iH12 to be fairly bass heavy. That's not really a huge deal if you're using this as an alarm clock to wake up to, but if you're just relaxing in bed, you'll have to make some EQ adjustments to find the right bass setting you're comfortable with.

The alarm features are fine, even if the controls are slightly less intuitive than we'd like. The remote is useful for fiddling with it from across the room, and the unit even has a battery backup in case your power goes out. For $79.99, it's a pretty great all-in-one iPod speaker and alarm clock combination that should work well in most bedrooms. If you want great sound quality in a set that you're going to use to listen to music more often, we'd recommend you get a separate unit to go with this.

CastGrabber offers up a simple way to download podcasts

CastGrabber

For podcasts lovers who are tired of connecting their MP3 players to a PC to download the podcasts they want, CastGrabber is offering something that would make your lives easier. OK, we mean to say that part of your life that you devote to downloading podcasts, and not life in general.

According to the CastGrabber product information listing, the device is a sort of a universal docking station for MP3 players which when connected to a network automatically grabs podcasts and transfers them to the MP3 player. How the device does this is a mystery to us, but it does require an initial setup using your PC.

To download podcasts on your MP3 player all you have to do is plug in the CastGrabber device into a network, connect your MP3 player to the device using the supplied USB cable, create an account at CastGrabber, choose the podcasts that you want to download, and then let the device do the rest of the downloading tasks. How we wished it was always that simple and easy.

In addition to downloading podcasts, CastGrabber will also charge your MP3 player as well. And yes it supports a variety of MP3 players including the iPod (except the iPod Touch), the Zune as well as some from SanDisk, Samsung and also Sony.

I just love the industrial design of this compact portable sound dock for the iPod. The einö Portable Speaker System is small enough to fit in your purse or backpack, so it’s the perfect companion for traveling with your media player.

Measuring in at about 7.7″ (w) x 4.2″ (h) x 1.3″ (d), the whole system fits inside of a convenient matching carrying case that’s just a hair bigger than a large wallet.

Sound is output to a pair of drivers at 1.4 watts per channel via a Class D stereo amp, and the speakers claim to pump out enhanced low frequencies thanks to something called ‘Maxx BassR’ technology.

The two halves of the speakers are 40 mm in diameter, with an output of 1W each, totaling 2W in all.
