Griffin iPod Dock Simplifies Cluttered Desks

Griffin iPod Dock Simplifies Cluttered Desks

simplifi_1.jpg

Look what Griffin did! It's another iPod dock, but this time it's actually useful. The Simplifi comes in at $70, but for that you get to toss out your media card reader and your USB hub. There's also an AC adapter for juice-sucking, bus-powered hard drives or to charge your iPod without the computer.

Our one complaint? That frickin' blue LED on the front. Why? I really don't need to bathe my bedroom in a cool blue flicker as I try to sleep. I say replace it with an IR port for the Apple remote. I also have another request: What about some technical magic to copy the contents of those media cards to the iPod's drive for a quick backup?

iPod Laser Light Show Speaker

iPod Laser Light Show Speaker

iPod Laser Light Show Speaker

This spherical speaker allows you to project safe, vibrant laser patterns onto your wall or ceiling while playing music from your iPod or any other MP3 player.

The red laser light patterns flash and move in sync with the beat of the music and you can decrease or increase the size of the swirling laser patterns by adjusting the volume on the speaker.

The adjustable stand allows you to quickly change the projection angle, and the laser turns off for use as a traditional iPod speaker. Plugs into AC or uses four AA batteries (not included).

The iPod Laser Light Show Speaker measures 8 1/4(H) x 8 1/4(D) inches and the product is available from the Hammacher Schlemmer website for $64.95.

Gorenje iPod Fridge

Gorenje iPod Fridge

If you thought iPod integrations were restricted to the car or living room, think again.  Raon Digital has built a fridge with integrated iPod dock and speaker.  Would I use it?  For sure. Would I pay a premium for my fridge because it had an iPod dock?  Oh hell no!  As an ‘added value’ they’ve also launched the iGorenje Web Portal, which will provide a wide variety of household content (recipes, etc).

Hit the ‘leap’ to see a close up of the dock and the not so sleek speaker (really, they just  disassembled an iPod boombox and mounted it on the fridge)

JBL On Stage IIIP

JBL On Stage IIIP

JBL took the opportunity to roll out its high-performance loudspeaker docking station at IFA 2008 - the JBL On Stage IIIP. This dock works great with the new iPhone 3G, offering outstanding functionality as well as crisp audio without compromising on design. Judging by JBL’s pedigree in the past, I have full confidence that the On Stage IIIP will not disappoint if you’re happy with its predecessors. Each purchase will come with an IR remote control that makes it a snap to navigate through your iPod/iPhone. Just in case you’re one of the rare few who do not rock on to an iPhone/iPod, the On Stage IIIP comes with a mini stereo jack that is compatible with other devices.

Belkin JoyPod: an iPhone game controller

The word on the street is that Belkin is going to release a joystick for iPhone and iPod Touch named JoyPod. If we believe the promotional image above, this will be officially supported once it gets on the market. It will have 8 buttons, a charging dock connector and... an audio output. Ok, it's intriguing, so we'll keep an eye on it. Stay tuned!
