Polk’s I-Sonic iPod dock

Polk’s I-Sonic iPod dock: "

Polk Audio, long known for their superior home entertainment system components and speaker systems, appears to be making an aggressive move into the iPod accessory market. The Polk I-Sonic iPod dock is one of the slickest iPod docks we’ve seen to date. The I-Sonic sports full video out capabilities, allowing you to stream movies and TV shows from your iPod directly to an external screen. The demonstration model was attached to a small screen which was producing incredibly high quality video from the docked iPod Nano. The dock also features an innovative radio capture and tagging system. So, let’s say you have an iPod docked to the I-Sonic, but are listening to the dock’s on board HD radio. You hear a song you like, hit the tag button, and the track is immediately copied to a new playlist on your iPod, ID3 tag and all. Pretty slick, right? The built-in speakers reproduce audio with Polk’s trademark clarity and precision. The only drawback? The price. At $599, you might want to think twice about dropping that much dough on an iPod dock, but if you have the money to spend, we don’t think you can find a better option.

iPod Party Speaker rocks the house

iPod Party Speaker rocks the house: "

ipod-party-speaker.jpgWe all know that there are iPod speakers, and then there are iPod speakers. What you see here looks like an ordinary PA system, but it holds a dirty little secret - there is an iPod dock built right inside it, enabling you to let all and sundry listen to your favorite tunes no matter where you are. As to whether the general public agrees with your eclectic choice of music, that remains to be seen - but one thing’s for sure; you’ll definitely be able to broadcast your digital audio collection on the spot. In essence, the name ‘iPod Party Speaker’ suits this device perfectly.

This PA system does not come with dials that can be cranked all the way to 11, but it is still touted to be ‘the ultimate in mobile party system.’ I forsee this to be a surefire winner at any party, and it would be nice to see it being splash- or water-proof, since parties often come with the usual amount of booze and we know all too well what normally happens when folks get sloshed - they start acting irrationally, and their sense of balance and perception goes bonkers, hence running a higher risk that some bozo with butterfingers will amble along the iPod Party Speaker, spilling their drink all over it and thus ending the party too early for its own good.

Features of the iPod Party Speaker include a mains cable and an internal rechargeable battery that boasts a continuous playback time of a dozen hours - definitely long enough to keep you going till the sun rises and your neighbors get ready to leave for the office. It is not only compatible with your iPod, but works just fine with other CD and MP3 players. Heck, you can even take the iPod Party Speaker and go busking with it since it accepts musical instruments as well - just make sure you have the musical talent to go along in order to form a profitable partnership with this portable wonder. If you’re interested in picking up the iPod Party Speaker, it is currently available for approximately £150.

Snip:
'The overall design of the iTPA-220 amp/speaker system is pretty sexy - two vacuum tubes proudly standing front and center on the iPod base/amp. The black and white plastic housing looks excellent in photos and gives the impression of a high quality, techie toy ideal for iPod owners who want a to show a little class. The 8'x6'x3.75' size of the base makes it perfect for placement on a desk, table, shelf or atop an a/v system.

Sadly, the design excellence peaks at the marketing photos. The physical amp is less than excellent. Made of lightweight plastic molding, the body of the iTPA-220 base feels like something from Hasbro or Fisher-Price. The body is a two-part mold (top and bottom halve

Portable Media: Cy.Fi Speaker, a Wireless iPod Dock for Your Bike: "

cyfi1_front.jpgIf you want to wake up the neighbors and bother everyone with your music while you ride your bike, the cy.fi wireless iPod dock is the bike speaker for you. And as a special bonus, it looks like an orangutan's ass! Working with the old-school iPod nano (and probably working with any iPod with a dock connector), it's a wireless speaker, and no, it's not using Bluetooth. It's using the Kleer Audio transmission that claims to be 10 times more energy efficient than Bluetooth.

cyfi2.jpg

The Cy.Fi speaker is about the size of a deck of cards and mounts on your handlebars. It spreads its stereo sound to let to the left and right, and makes it so you don't have to wear earphones that might obscure important noises of impending danger. Get more speakers, and one iPod can broadcast its signal to everyone in your riding group.

cyfi3.jpg

The company says the Cy.Fi's transmission is 100% lossless, sent from your iPod tucked safely away in your pocket. You can also control volume and skip tracks right from the speaker. Available sometime in 2008, it'll cost you $149. [Cy.Fi]

Just in case you were worried during 'The Beat Goes On' that the new iPods wouldn't work with the current generation of head-mounted displays (which they apparently won't), myvu has come to the rescue with a new model that -- besides a shared distaste for capitalization -- also features an Apple authorization chip for guaranteed compatibility. The solo plus follows the nearly-identical solo that we saw earlier in the year, sporting a low-profile design, wired remote, and integrated, noise-canceling, earbud headphones, while playing nice with the touch, classic, and 3G nano. Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Available Today

Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin Available Today

lm_altview_tn981.jpg

After a much anticipated wait, Bowers & Wilkins Zeppelin speakers will no be available from purchase. The creator of the world's most advanced home theater and hifi loudspeaker systems has created a speaker made specifically for the iPod. Zeppelin is an integrated iPod speaker system from Bowers & Wilkins, makers of the speakers used to monitor the recording of much of the music on your iPod.

A full stereo system in one unit, Zeppelin releases all of the detail and atmosphere in your music. Compact enough to tuck under your arm, it can set you free, as well. Zeppelin allows you to have real hi-fi stereo sound wherever you need it: upstairs, downstairs, or perhaps in or second home. Or you might just need a simpler, smaller, and more stylish replacement for your traditional audio system.

Zeppelin rocks wherever you are, yet it's simple to set up and use. Plug it in, place your iPod on the docking port, and hit the play button. You can vary the volume on Zeppelin itself, on its remote control, or on the iPod. And connections at the back let you play other sources through Zeppelin or channel images from your iPod to a TV.

Not only is the shape of Zeppelin pleasing to the eye, it's also based on sound acoustic principles. One of the reasons tweeters are so small is that they disperse the tiny high-frequency waves over a wider area than larger drivers. What is less well known is that the size of the enclosure housing the tweeter also affects this dispersion and that's why Zeppelin's body narrows as the drivers get smaller.
Features

* Midrange and tweeter derived from Bowers & Wilkins' award-winning and class-leading M-1 speaker
* Internal subwoofer driver centrally and deeply located for bass that has power and authority
* Three high-quality amplifiers: one for left, one for right, and one for bass
* Docking port arm that lets you grasp your iPod as if it were in your hand
* Spring-loaded docking port flexes to accommodate each iPod model, eliminating the need for adapters
* Standard AUX port for connecting earlier iPod models, CD players, computers, and more

Specifications

* Technical features: Digital Signal Processing; digital amplifier; switch mode power supply
* Drive units: One 5 in./125 mm bass; two 3.5 in./90 mm midrange; two 1 in./25 mm metal dome tweeters
* Frequency range: -6dB at 47Hz and 22kHz
* Amplifier power output: One 50 W (bass); two 25 W midrange/tweeter
* Power input voltage: 100V-240V @ 50/60Hz
* Power consumption: 20 W rated; 3.7 W standby
* Inputs: 30-pin iPod dock connector; 3.5 mm mini-jack analog/optical digital (TOSlink); USB 2.0 slave (for software upgrades)
* Outputs: S-video (mini DIN) composite video (RCA phono)
