iLuv i1166 portable media player

iLuv i1166 portable media player

iLuv i1166 portable media player

Are you not sold on the Apple iPad? Well, if you want a portable media player of a different kind, then you might be interested to check out the iLuv i1166. It comes with a built-in 8.9' widescreen TFT LCD display which will pop open, revealing a DVD player and if that is not enough, there is also an iPod dock as well. Just in case you don't have any DVDs to watch or an iPod in your collection of gadgets, you can always insert an SD memory card with digital content of your choice into a memory card slot. Just in case you don't want to take advantage of the touchscreen display by navigating it using your fingers, there is always an accompanying remote control for couch potatoes. We don't think the $299.99 price tag is something most people are willing to part with though.

So yeah, it's just another iPod speaker dock, although that 8-hour rechargeable battery is nice. Full PR and video overview after the break.

iPhone Sniper Stand

iPhone Sniper Stand

Here’s a minimalist approach to a stand for your iPhone, iPod or other pocket media player. The Sniper Stand is simply a contoured plastic disk with criss-cross slots that you attach to the back of your device. Then You just insert a credit card to complete the stand.

Simple solution. Until you get so used to using your credit card in this way that you leave it behind. That would suck. The first batch of stands are in production and will be finished in a black gloss. The stand comes with a Scotch 3M VHB adhesive pad that’s super strong yet easily removable.

Only $9.95.

Texthook Smartphone Holder Review

Texthook Smartphone Holder Review

When Julie asked everyone if they would like to review the Texthook, I immediately jumped at the chance.  I thought it would be a great opportunity to review a gadget when I’m ‘out and about’, so to speak.

I was quite intrigued by the Texthook to say the least.  It’s a gadget which allows you to attach your smart phone to your child’s pram/pushchair, your shopping trolley, bicycle or even your exercise equipment, so you can easily read the display when you’re on the move.   So, let’s have a closer look! … [visit site to read more]

Violight goes ultraviolent on your gadgets, leaves germ corpses in its wake

Violight goes ultraviolent on your gadgets, leaves germ corpses in its wake

Violight has been in the business of UV-based germicide since way back in 2004, but now it's bringing its wares closer to our geeky hearts. Its new Cell Phone Sanitizer will nuke 99 percent of all germs and bacteria slithering around your phone or MP3 player, and it'll do it in under 5 minutes too. Or such is the claim, anyhow. Alternative applications for this ultra-versatile product include using it as gift packaging or as a display stand in stores -- you've got to love that added value right there. Some patience will be required before you lay down $49.95 for your very own UV zapper, as Violight's Sanitizer isn't hitting the market until at least October.

iBend is an iPhone Stand in your Pocket

iBend is an iPhone Stand in your PocketiBend.jpg

You've got to love the simplicity of the iBend. This rigid vinyl iPhone stand is so slim you can fit it in your wallet, purse, or even your iPhone's case. Remove it, and you've got a convenient way to prop up your iPhone for a little video viewing. It also works with the iPod Touch and the Nexus One.

As you can see on the iBend site, it comes in some attractively designed patterns. The price is a low $4.99, and that's for two iBends, so it's nice to see an iPhone accessory that doesn't price gouge. If you've ever been sitting at a coffee shop or on a plane and wished you could prop your iPhone up while you watch a movie, then it's $5 well spent.

Onda’s 299 Yuan ($45 USD) Offerings

Onda’s 299 Yuan ($45 USD) Offerings

onda-vx530-vx530touch

At just 299 Yuan, which directly translates to around $45 USD, Onda are offering the VX530 and the VX530Touch. Raz quite accurately predicted in his video review of the VX530Touch that this thing would ‘probably not break the bank’ and, with a price tag of 299 Yuan, it certainly doesn’t seem to. With ICOO’s recent entries into this price range, it is evident that it is becoming a more popular one. The logical following would be better quality at the same price range, and the ball keeps on rolling.

However, the low price points of these recent players does compel me to take the pricing structure with a grain, or multitude of grains, of salt. Could it be that at such a low price this is a clearing out of stock, or a particularly small production run? What implication does this have for future support or long-term investment into a product? These are all things worth considering.

But, at the end of the end of the day, if you are a Gestalt kind-of-person, the here and the now has this player, with HD functionality, on the cheap. That might be a win in itself. Really, that’s all up to you.

Kenwood AS-iP70 converges picture frame, alarm clock, FM radio and iPhone dock into one

We know, you've seen enough iDevice docks to make your eyes bleed with frustration, but if your bedside table is growing a bit cluttered with all the appendages and chargers you have lying around, you might wanna check this one out. Kenwood's 7-inch AS-iP70 can serve as a picture viewer, a music player, an alarm clock, or an FM radio, while also packing USB and SD card inputs for alternative media sources. All in all, it looks quite slick and has plenty of buttons to play around with, but be warned that its 800 x 480 resolution is intended for pictures only, there's no video playback to be had. If that and the ¥25,000 sticker (about $270, launching in Japan this April) have you running scared, you might want to check out Sony's cheaper, AVI-playing alternative right over here.

Swipe It Credit Card Reader For The iPhone Looks Like It Means Business

Swipe It Credit Card Reader For The iPhone Looks Like It Means Business

Swipe It Credit Card Reader For The iPhone Looks Like It Means Business

Do you think that the Square payment system looks (physically) dodgy? After all, it looks like a little bit of plastic attached to the iPhone, ready to gobble up your Platinum credit card, right? If you’re worried about embracing new-looking tech, and just want something that looks more traditional, the Swipe It Reader for the iPhone might go a little way to ease your worries, mainly because it’s a lot bigger and bulkier, and looks a lot more like the credit card terminals that we’re used to. It supports Visa, MasterCard, AMEX and Discover, and all the data is encrypted before it’s passed from the reader to the customer Swipe It app running on the device. Apparently it only draws minimal power from the iPhone, which is good, and can also charge your iPhone while it’s connected, thanks to the included AC adapter. Is this a genuine contender for Square?

GameBone iPhone Gamepad Accessory

If you think that your iPhone needs a little something extra in order to challenge Sony’s PSP, or Nintendo’s DS, the Gamebone gamepad accessory for the iPhone might be just the thing. It does seem to turn your iPhone to something resembling a PSP, so that’s probably good news, considering that the PSP looks quite good. Aside from the gamepad, the Gamebone actually goes the extra mile by offering an additional 2000mAh battery on board for extra gaming hours, built-in stereo speakers, omni-directional mic, and a (probably unnecessary) 3.5mm headphone jack. There isn’t any official pricing mentioned, but the Gamebone is apparently scheduled to be launched in Q4 of 2010.
