Brando's Power Station Holds 1000mAh, Title For Cheapest iPhone Battery [IPhone Battery]

Brando's Power Station Holds 1000mAh, Title For Cheapest iPhone Battery [IPhone Battery]

We're not sure if Brando's version of the external iPhone battery pack bests the others we've seen in performance, but it's definitely the cheapest by far. At $25, it's a whole $18 cheaper than the iPhoneck, and half as costly as Macally's PowerLink. Is it any good? No clue yet. But it's cheap, which is all some people care about.

Muso Brings Voice Commands To The iPod

Muso Brings Voice Commands To The iPod

If watching the latest Iron Man movie made you feel that voice commands are cool, then this might be just the thing. The Muso is a small gadget that plugs into the iPod, and gives it (or you) voice control. Apparently it synchronizes with users' iTunes library directly on first use, and doesn't require any training. It understands requests such as 'Play me some ABBA', 'Give me Jazz', or even 'Play me something like the last song'. It's currently going for $159, and the battery lasts for 10 hours, which should be more than enough time for people to conclude that you're another weird geek.

IMuffs: Stereo Wireless Headphones for IPhone

IMuffs: Stereo Wireless Headphones for IPhone

imuffs.jpg

One unfathomable problem with the iPhone, both old and new, is the lack of stereo Bluetooth (A2DP) capability. As the phone supports regular Bluetooth for phone calls, we can only assume that Steve Jobs isn't happy with the sound quality and therefore refuses to give his customers a choice of their own.

This is where the new MD-210 iMuffs come in. These stereo Bluetooth headphones will work with any regular stereo Bluetooth source, including most cellphones and computers, but the optional dongle allows them to work with an iPhone (or any current iPod). Plug the rather large adapter into the dock port and it will send you tunes through the air. The switches on the side of the splendidly named iMuffs will control playback and volume, although the built in microphone might be overkill for use with plain iPods. The kit price is $180, and the adapter, should you require more than one, is available separately for $60. Available now.

Macally PowerLink 3-In-1 Battery, Sync Cable & Flash Drive For iPhone & iPod

Macally PowerLink 3-In-1 Battery, Sync Cable & Flash Drive For iPhone & iPod

Macally PowerLink (Images courtesy Macally)

By Andrew Liszewski

Normally my eyes tend to glaze over when it comes to the hundreds of accessories available for the iPod or the iPhone, but this relatively compact USB dongle from Macally seems to be pretty useful. On one end you’ll find a standard USB connection but on the other there’s the 30 pin connector used by the iPhone and the various iPod’s for charging and syncing. I guess the primary use of the PowerLink is as an emergency backup battery to extend the life of your device if you happen to be away from a power source. Unfortunately there’s no details on the Macally site as to how much longer you can expect a device to run with the PowerLink attached, but given its size I don’t think we’re talking hours and hours.

The PowerLink can also be used as a substitute sync cable between your PC and iPod/iPhone if you’ve forgotten or chose not to carry the standard cable. Given the fact that it’s not flexible like the cable though, it might be a bit awkward to use if you don’t have a table or flat surface to put the devices on. But as an added bonus Macally has also crammed 2GB of flash memory in there so it’s even useful as just a USB flash drive. While it’s still listed as ‘Coming Soon’ on the Macally website, when it is available the PowerLink will sell for $49.99.
