Regen’s Renu iPod Dock Is My Favorite Solar Panel Gadget To Date

Regen’s Renu iPod Dock Is My Favorite Solar Panel Gadget To Date

Regen Renu iPod Dock

Still trying to figure out how to make your iPhone a tad greener and all the while not cluttering up your desktop?  The Regen’s Renu solar panel is a modular system that charges on its own and when the time comes, can be placed in one of their two docks to charge up the iPhone.  That means you don’t have to expose your iPhone to direct sunlight, potentially harming the phone’s fragile components.

Regen Renu iPod Dock-2

Renu currently offers an iPod dock, which just does the usual or you can opt for the more expensive but heavier featured Sound Dock, which includes a set of speakers and a slot for Regen’s Renu solar panel, providing up to 8 hours of sound or power to your iProduct of choice. The Renu solar panel takes about 3.7 hours to charge in direct sunlight outside and 7.3 hours of ‘direct sunlight indoors’.

Regen Sound Dock

Regen’s iPod Dock and Renu Solar Panel will ship next February for $249, while the Sound Dock will ship April 2010 for $149 (that price doesn’t include the $199 Renu Solar Panel).

Bluw Lecci Novelty Mini Mixer

Bluw Lecci Novelty Mini Mixer

bluw

Verging on the useless is this little mini mixer that allows crossfading between two players (illustrated here by the little known ‘iPod’).

Options do open out a little more when you consider using another source rather than two PMPs, meaning it’ll work as a makeshift device allowing playback between a laptop and an MP3 player. It has audio output and a built in speaker.

At just £20 though it’ll no doubt just a be a nice novelty stocking filler.

We typically don't cover all the accessories out there, but check out this hard shell for the iPod nano 5G. The nano is one of these gadget that is so'thin that adding a skin on top of it doesn't really damage the experience. This comes with a belt clip and even has a docking port protection - how paranoid is that? If you have more question, head to their FAQ page.

Yamaha's PDX-60 wireless iPod / iPhone dock adds yAired to the lexicon

Yamaha's PDX-60 wireless iPod / iPhone dock adds yAired to the lexicon

Sony's got its S-AIR, Yamaha has its yAired -- so, what of it? The outfit famous for making just about everything from ATVs to wicked soundbars has today introduced a classy addition to the oversaturated iPod / iPhone sound system market: the PDX-60. Apple loyalists simply dock their media player in the wireless base and watch as the tunes are streamed effortlessly into the magical box on the other side. There's also remote control capability for keeping tabs on that playlist whilst planted on the sofa, and the dock can even power on and off automatically with 'yAired-enabled iPhones / iPods.' The music maker itself boasts a pair of 3.25-inch speakers and a digital amplifier of undisclosed wattage, and it's available in black, gray, blue or pink for $299.95. So, any takers, or are you stickin' with Bose?

Sonos S5 ears-on review: a premium iPod speaker dock without the dock

Sonos S5 ears-on review: a premium iPod speaker dock without the dock

We had the opportunity to hear a preview of the $399 Sonos S5 all-in-one speaker ahead of its 27 October US launch (November 10th in Europe). For comparison, we had it staged side-by-side with a pair of Sonos 100 speakers -- a setup that costs $678 ($499 for an amplified Sonos ZonePlayer Z120 and another $179 for the separate loudspeakers). Unfair, perhaps, since Sonos is actually positioning its five speaker (two tweeters, two 3-inch mids, and a built-in 3.5-inch sub) S5 with five dedicated amps against premium iPod speaker docks like the $600 Bose SoundDock 10, $600 B&W Zeppelin, or legacy $349 Apple iPod Hi-Fi. So how did it sound? About what we expected, which in this case is a good thing. Click through to find out why.

Finally, an acceptable iPhone tripod adapter

Finally, an acceptable iPhone tripod adapterFinally, an acceptable iPhone tripod adapter

You might've noticed the iPhone has a decent camcorder on board, but no image stabilization. That's why we've been looking for a dependable tripod mount, an unsuccessful search until now. The XShot iPhone case is made of shiny plastic, but has a standard 1/4-inch threaded tripod mount on the bottom.

At long last, we can mount up our iPhone camcorder without using precarious suction cups. This'll be great for time-lapse work, and for shooting rock-solid videos that the iPhone makes oh-so-easy to upload to YouTube.

Too bad we'll have to wait until November to get one of these puppies for $29.95, but preorders get a $10 discount.

Hands-on with the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic (IMT620)

Hands-on with the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic (IMT620)

ALIMC 01 Hands on with the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic (IMT620)

I recently had some news through about the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic IMT620, which I posted up. Basically it’s an iPhone/iPod speaker stand, including both an FM Radio, and the ability to take an AUX input - a handy variety of options then! Well now I’ve had one for a while, I have some thoughts to share:

Form Factor

Altec Lansing seem to be spending their time producing products with a great balance of weight/portability, and great industrial styling. The slab styling here looks really nice - about 10x better than a lot of DAB radios I’ve seen the past 18 months! The stowage of the remote is great too, and the dual-purpose carry handle/stand is a clever trick too. Probably the only thing that isn’t on-board is the chunky power supply, but bearing in mind this has an internal rechargeable battery, you don’t need the power pack that often!

ALIMC 02 Hands on with the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic (IMT620)

Connectivity and Usage

For Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) devices, the connectivity is great - there’s also an AUX connector on the back of the device too. Adaptors are provided for the Apple connector, to help you dock both iPhones and iPods - which are all officially supported. Usage is simple - the ‘source’ toggle button and power button do exactly what they say on the tin, and the buttons have a nice tactile response to being pressed. The other volume +/- and track fwd/rwd buttons are simply done, and work well. There’s not much more to say, other than everything works really well!

ALIMC 03 Hands on with the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic (IMT620)

ALIMC 04 Hands on with the Altec Lansing InMotion Classic (IMT620)

Sound Quality

Here’s the key thing again - what about the sounds? Well for something so small, it really can pump out the volume. I presume advances in speaker technology and audio processing have something to do with it, because the fidelity of this unit is head and shoulders above some of the other units I’ve seen in the market. In short, it sounds great!

Conclusion

The conclusion - if I didn’t have one already, I’d buy one. It would (and has) live in the kitchen, and with the mains connected, not only charges the iPhone, but also sucks funky tunes out of it, and pipes them round the room - nice! This is a very well-crafted bit of kit, and highly recommended.

iBike Rider Case holds your iPhone

iBike Rider Case holds your iPhone

Most people treat their iPhone (regardless of the generation) as some sort of fragile device, making accessories like the iBike Rider Case a no-brainer to purchase. This wrist-mounted, waterproof iPhone case will come with an optional headset microphone to go along with your helmet, allowing you to carry out important phone calls even when you're zipping down the highway in your Honda Gold Wing. It will feature a clear plastic case that is waterproof (you never know the weather these days), where it will retail for $42 a pop - top that amount up by another $43 if you want the optional helmet-mounted headset as well.

OrigAudio: Fold N' Play Paper Speakers

OrigAudio: Fold N' Play Paper SpeakersOrigAudio_speakers.jpg

They're arty, cleverly designed, and eco-friendly--oh, and they're really cheap, too. These OrigAudio Fold 'N Plays ($16 direct) arrive as two flattened boxes of cardboard with embedded speakers and an attached cable. You fold each into a 3-inch cube and plug the cable into any music player with a headphone jack. Voila, your new audio system is complete.

Surely you're not expecting high quality or high volume, and you won't get either; each speaker is just 1 watt. But that's really not the point here (see my lead sentence, above). The speakers are made of recycled materials and are powered from your player; and they're really quite portable since they're refoldable. The designs are attractive: Pictured is 'Flowers,' but check out the other five designs. You can even order the whole 'Sixpack' for $60. As icing on the sustainable cake, the company donates a portion of each sale to causes it deems worthy.
