Glove Remote Control for iPod

Glove Remote Control for iPod: "

Picture 1-53Inveterate multitasker Carsten Mehring has brought his wearable computer tech to the iPod. The researcher at UC Irving showed a new kind of remote control at the International Symposium on Wearable Computers last week in Boston.

The problem: portable devices are fiddly to use, especially when doing something else. Skiers, cyclists and drivers all need to concentrate on what they're doing. Taking a few seconds out to skip tracks can be distracting or dangerous.

The solution: Mehring built a remote into a two fingered glove. Touching fingers together performs a pre-defined action: skip tracks or volume up or down. The signal is sent wirelessly to the iPod.

It might sound a little dorky, but wearables are going mainstream as we watch. Bluetooth headsets and MP3 players on lanyards are just the beginning. For Mehring's own take on the wearable computer, involving wireless, finger mounted keys, and a head mounted display, check the German video below.
