Glove Remote Control for iPod

Glove Remote Control for iPod: "

Picture 1-53Inveterate multitasker Carsten Mehring has brought his wearable computer tech to the iPod. The researcher at UC Irving showed a new kind of remote control at the International Symposium on Wearable Computers last week in Boston.

The problem: portable devices are fiddly to use, especially when doing something else. Skiers, cyclists and drivers all need to concentrate on what they're doing. Taking a few seconds out to skip tracks can be distracting or dangerous.

The solution: Mehring built a remote into a two fingered glove. Touching fingers together performs a pre-defined action: skip tracks or volume up or down. The signal is sent wirelessly to the iPod.

It might sound a little dorky, but wearables are going mainstream as we watch. Bluetooth headsets and MP3 players on lanyards are just the beginning. For Mehring's own take on the wearable computer, involving wireless, finger mounted keys, and a head mounted display, check the German video below. To see the iPod remote in action, click the video link (warning: Pre-roll commercials).

Review: DLO TuneStik with Remote FM iPod transmitter - Register Hardware

Review: DLO TuneStik with Remote FM iPod transmitter - Register Hardware: "

DLO-TuneStikalign ="right" />

A review of the DLO TuneStik with Remote FM iPod transmitter has been posted over at the Register hardware.
'Out of the box, the TuneStik consists of a small - 5.8 x 2.8 x 0.5cm, 7g - RF remote control complete with cradle and velcro strap to attach it to your steering wheel, and the TuneStik FM transmitter that attaches to your iPod's dock port. The dock connector is of the pass-though variety, allowing a power charger or other iPod accessory to be attached in series. Set up is pretty straightforward: find an 'empty' frequency on your car radio then set the TuneStik transmitter to the same frequency using the remote control - the transmission frequency shows up on your iPod's screen.'

Integrated Mobile Electronics' universal iMe dock gets price, ship date

Integrated Mobile Electronics' universal iMe dock gets price, ship date: "

We know, it's pretty difficult to remember all the way back to November of last year, but for those who need a refresher, Integrated Mobile Electronics' iMe docking station enables one device to accept a multitude of DAPs / PMPs within your car. The company hopes that folks with various players (or various riders) will enjoy not having to rewire their vehicle for every single unit, and apparently, the iMe is entering production and should be in customers' hands 'within six to eight weeks.' Dubbed an 'integrated package,' it should play nice with devices from Apple, Microsoft and SanDisk from day one, while a variety of other players should get support in the future. Potential buyers can even specify what vehicle they own in order to receive a system 'specifically engineered to work with their setup,' and while the iMe station itself will cost $249.99, each additional dock will run you a stiff $89.99.

Bevy - Useful 4-in-1 keychain

Bevy - Useful 4-in-1 keychain: "

When I think of a keychain, I imagine something simple to be used with keys. But when Bevy comes around, the scenario changes and it becomes a 4-in-1 ‘gadget’:

Bevy

  • keychain

  • iPod shuffle case

  • earphone cable wrap

  • bottle opener

For me, the most useful feature is the earphone cable wrap because leaving earphones loose inside a pocket can become a tricky situation. Since it is easy to open bottles with a lighter, I could live without the included bottle opener, but putting the biggest number of ‘gadgets’ in one product is always useful, so this feature is also welcome. As for the iPod shuffle case, it is pretty useful as well to protect the Apple product.

The Bevy can be considered a cheap, yet good Christmas present, it costs £10 ($20USD) and is available at Firebox.
